About
Macassar Beach is a long stretch of sand extending more than six kilometres along the foot of the Macassar dunes – Cape Town’s highest and most extensive dune system. The beach resort is accessed from Macassar Road, and includes a number of car parks as well as a camping area. It is a very exposed stretch of coastline with powerful waves and currents, so swimming can be dangerous, although lifesavers from the local club keep watch during peak periods. Kitesurfers often come here to take advantage of the strong winds, but the most regular visitors are anglers targeting fish such as elf, galjoen, white steenbras, kob and blacktail. There is a licensed trek-netting operation too.
