The club was formed in 2002 and was initially known as New Balance Kapstadt due to its sponsorship partnership with international apparel brand New Balance.
FC Kapstadt is a Cape Town based football club, situated at Hartleyvale Stadium in Observatory. There are numerous players who rose through the ranks now playing professional football around the world and in the Premier Soccer League. FC Kapstadt is not an Open club for membership. All aspiring players must undergo an assessment or trial period before membership is offered. Discipline is our top priority, thus all members will undergo character assessment during trial period.
In 2003, Zaid Omar acquired a SAFA Vodacom 2nd Division franchise and named it FC Kapstadt. But the club formed a partnership with international apparel brand NEW BALANCE and as part of the sponsorship agreement adopted the name NEW BALANCE FC for a contracted period.
A landmark for South African Football, FC Kapstadt became the first SAFA 2nd Division club to gain sponsorship from an international company.
The sponsorship agreement extended to the supply of kit and finance, in exchange for the marketing and advertising opportunities that the club provided.
Further club sponsor are Liquid Thought and SHOWREEL FX., including brand centric companies like Nandos, Metropolitan and Puma.
The club competed in the 2003 / 2004, SAFA 2nd Division season finishing 3rd on final log standings. FC Kapstadt had an immediate and significant impact on South African Football scene. FC Kapstadt is associated to the Cape Town Tygerberg Football Association. In recent years the FC Kapstadt youth division has become a force in the CTTFA Leagues.
